"As a result of the current economic recession all animal charities, including P.A.D., have suffered tremendous financial problems from both a reduction in donations, memberships, sponsorships etc and a growing number of abandoned animals. These circumstances, along with certain accrued liabilities not disclosed to the current committee until shortly prior to the AGM,earlier this year, have resulted in the current committee having to consider all options for the on-going funding of the charity.During this review the committee received an offer to  purchase the land which houses the cattery..As part of this offer we have been offered a 10 year lease at a peppercorn rent of one euro per month. This offer, apart from being almost equivalent to the book value of the land will enable the charity, not only to pay off the aforementioned accrued liabilities but will provide the charity with a significant buffer fund to help us through any future crises. These funds will not be used to finance on-going costs but will be held separately and only used for projects which will enhance our ability to look after both the existing and future animals entrusted to our care. The committee strongly urges all members to vote for the resolution at the EGM."

IF YOU are an animal lover and like a good night out, then why not go along to the PAD (Proteccion animales domesticos) BBQ on Saturday July 24th. It is guaranteed to be a fabulous evening, and commences at 8:30pm at the Venta ´Ponderosa` on the Carretera Cerros del Aguila (behind the shelter). Tickets cost just €28 for a three course meal and drinks. You will be entertained by the belly dancing troop ´El karma` and there will be live music. Go along to support your local animal charity and have fantastic night out too!

About PAD
PAD is a privately run charity in the Mijas/Fuengirola area that specialises in the rehabilitation and re‐homing of abandoned dogs and cats. Since the shelter opened in December 1998 they have found new homes for 5000 dogs and cats. All of the animals are cared for by qualified veterinarians and are fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. The running costs for an animal shelter are extremely high, as well as everyday food costs there are also bills for vaccinations, neutering and micro-chipping. The charity relies on the kind donations made by the public, and they hold regular fund-raising events.

Open Day
The shelter has an open day on the 1st Sunday of every month, the next one will be on Sunday the 1st August at 12pm to 3pm. There are many cats and dogs at the shelter right now who are in desperate need of a caring, loving home. If you are thinking about adopting a new pet then please visit the shelter and you may consider making one of them your friend and companion for life.

For BBQ bookings phone Lisa: 658 351 642. For more information about PAD visit www.padcatsanddogs.org

Born 01/08/2005
HENRY is a spaniel cross and a good looking boy, dark brown with the usual speckled colouring under his belly and chest. Henry was a pad dog and was adopted in Jan 2008 and then found wandering in Riveria Del Sol, his supposed owners address non-existent and the mobile phone number dead, so he has returned to PAD, he weighs approx 20kilos and has a good character.

Born 03/01/2009
We found JOEL in May tied to the gate of the cat shelter, he is of mixed breed and light brown in colour, good nature and obviously gets on well with other dogs.

Born 12/03/2010
MADISON is a sweet little thing and of white and black colour and she was put through the gate at the shelter early one morning of the 7th May.  She adores playing with the other dogs, running and jumping but is also good on a lead, she has now had all her vaccinations and is just waiting to be of age for sterilization, at the moment she weighs approx 8 kilos.

Born 23/10/2008
SALLY is another victim of circumstance. She was adopted from PAD in Feb 09 and returned in June. She is black and tan in colour is of good nature and loves all dogs, which is very handy here.

Born 24/02/2007
TOY was left at the local perrera because he had a skin problem, which turned out to be dermatitis, for which he has been treated and he is a pomeranian breed, and black brown and cream in colour, and just loves life to the full he weighs approx 5kilos.

Born 03/12/2002
TESS another victim of circumstance she was adopted from PAD 7 years ago and has been returned. She is a cocker spaniel, all black in colour and is rather rotund & weighs approx 17 kilos.

Brin the British Troop Mascot
A hero stray dog who saved the lives of British troops has been rescued from the Taliban in a daring raid by Afghan commandos. Brin the Afghan hound was adopted by Coldstream Guards and handed over to Gurkha Rifles troops after wandering on to their base several months ago. The friendly desert dog, who looks like a cross between a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a Jack Russell, then started following them on patrols into the Taliban badlands. Soon the clever pooch started barking at suspicious-smelling mounds in the dirt which were found to be deadly Taliban roadside bombs. It meant soldiers were able to avoid the explosives and in some cases destroy them.

For the past few months Brin has made himself at home at Patrol Base 4, where B Company, 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles are based, surrounded by Taliban. British troops began to value Brin’s company and locals heard the Taliban were becoming angry the Brits had flown in a “specially trained SAS dog”.
