FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED URGENTLY

One of the biggest problems we are currently experiencing at the shelter is space, The number of dogs coming in has started to increase drastically this year, why?, well I'm not certain but it could have something to do with the exchange rate and the lack of employment now on the coast forcing families to pack up and return to the UK, leaving behind the family pet because they were not aware of the 7 months it takes to obtain the pooch's passport.

As most of you are already aware a number of our guests are found homes abroad in Finland and Germany via the internet and websites like this. Once these lucky mutts new families have chosen them it takes a few weeks to sort out blood-tests and issue passports and then of course arranging flights and someone to accompany them.

It's this few weeks period that causes the problem, the dogs have to all intense and purposes been adopted but they are still in the shelter just waiting, If we could find some kind people locally to take in these animals and care for them for a couple of weeks prior to their flight it would firstly free up some much needed space in the shelter and secondly help the dog or dogs aclimatise to a home enviroment.

Most of the dogs homed abroad are the smaller breeds so don't take up a lot of room or eat much, so come on this is an appeal to your heart not your wallet. If you would like to help please give Barbara or Eddie a ring on 952486084 or email them.

SPRING FAIR 2008

Last Sunday (April 27th) we held our annual Spring Fair at the Nordic Centre on the Ctra de Mijas. The weather forcasters were right for once and the sun shone for us. We had all the usual stalls and games, Bar, BBQ and music . A big thank-you to everybody who attended and helped to raise a staggering 5000 Euros.
